Fredericksburg, Va. – The Penn State Harrisburg men's basketball team has not had the season they have hoped for, but that has not stopped the Lion men from fighting hard in every contest as this season comes to a close. The trend continued Saturday February 14th against the Mary Washington Eagles, who had to earn their 73-65 win over the Lions.
Harrisburg's Alberto De Los Santos (East Pennsboro, Pa. / East Pennsboro) hit a three to start the game and give the Lions an early lead. The Eagles responded with a 13- 2 run to claim an eight point lead after the first seven minutes of action. The Blue and White kept within reach for the majority of the half, but allowed a late run before halftime to go down 36-24 at the break.
As the Lion men have done for most of the season, they never quit and brought themselves back within reach. Santo's hit another deep ball with 15:13 to go, capping off a 12-2 run and brining the Lions within two points.
Unfortunately, the Eagles had the answer to anything the Blue and White put forth. Every time Penn State Harrisburg needed a big stop, the Eagles would hit an equally big shot. The only real significant difference in the game was the amount of trips to the free throw line. The Eagles shot nearly 80% going 23-29, while the Lions shot 65% with their 11-17. The extra scores made the difference as Mary Washington claimed the win 73-65.
Penn State Harrisburg had another strong performance from Senior Captain Joey Farthing (Lancaster, Pa. / Hempfield) who scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Leading the team in scoring was Anthony Morgan (York, Pa / New Hope Academy) who scored 16 points in the loss.
The Lions will get to finish their 2014-2015 campaign at home as they host Wesley College Wednesday February 18th at 8:00 p.m. and then finish things off with Christopher Newport next Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
