GANSEVOORT, NY - The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) announces student-athlete of the week selections for the week ending April 19, 2009 in the sport of men´s baseball and women´s softball, men´s golf, and men´s and women´s tennis. Penn State Harrisburg was represented by having four of its players honored. Baseball TJ Houseal (Maytown, PA), Golf Brad Goss (Palmyra, PA), Men´s Tennis Daika Tanaka (Fukuoka, Japan), and Women´s Tennis Maya Davis (Washington, DC).
TJ HOUSEAL (Maytown, PA) was selected as the NEAC Baseball Student-Athlete of the Week. Houseal, a freshman outfielder for the Penn State University - Harrisburg Nittany Lions, was selected for his outstanding performance at the plate and in the field this week leading his team to a 3-1 record (2-0 in NEAC play). Houseal averaged .500 at the plate going 8-for-16 with 9 runs, 5 RBIs, 3 walks, 1 sacrifice fly, and 4 stolen bases on 5 attempts. He had a slugging % of .500 and an on base percentage of .550. In the field, Houseal had 6 putouts, 1 assists, and zero errors (a perfect fielding percentage). Houseal´s performance helped Penn State Harrisburg remain perfect in conference play with a 6-0 record in the NEAC.\
BRAD GOSS (Palmyra, PA) was selected as the NEAC Men´s Golf Co-Student-Athlete of the week for his outstanding performance for the Penn State Harrisburg Nittany Lions. Goss, a sophomore, shot a personal best 75 (par 72) to help his team to second place in their tri-match with Elizabethtown College and SUNY Cobleskill. The team shot a 319, just 10 strokes behind first place Elizabethtown at 309, while SUNY Cobleskill finished with a team score of 356.
DAIKI TANAKA (Fukuoka, Japan) was selected as the NEAC Men´s Tennis Student-Athlete of the Week for his performance for the Penn State Harrisburg Nittany Lions. Tanaka, a junior, won 2 of his 3 singles matches at the #3 flight with scores of 6-3, 6-3 against Keuka College and 6-1, 6-4 against SUNY Cobleskill. The score of his loss was 2-6, 3-6 against Wilkes. Tanaka won 2-of-3 doubles matches at the #3 position as well. He lost 4-8 to Wilkes, but finished the week strong by beating Keuka 8-3, and SUNY Cobleskill 8-1 at #3 doubles. Tanaka helped Penn State Harrisburg to a 2-0 NEAC record this week.
MAYA DAVIS (Washington, D.C.) was selected as the NEAC Women´s Tennis Student-Athlete of the Week for her performance for the Penn State Harrisburg Lady Nittany Lions. Davis, a freshman, won 2 of 3 singles matches at the #4 flight this week. She lost to Wilkes 0-6, 3-6, but beat Wilson 6-0, 6-1 and SUNY Cobleskill 6-4, 6-4. She also won a match at the #3 singles position defeating Keuka´s third singles 6-1, 6-1. Davis split her 4 doubles matches at the #2 spot, losing 4-8 to Wilkes and 6-8 to Keuka, but beating Wilson 8-0 and SUNY Cobleskill 9-7. In her own matches, Davis was 5-1 in all of her NEAC matches.
