On Friday, April 28, Penn State Harrisburg held their annual award banquet and ceremony in honor of all the student athletes who participated in a varsity sport during the 2016-2017 academic year. Athletics Director Rahsaan Carlton opened the ceremony, reminding the students of the importance of what they do, and thanking them for their efforts in leading their teams to success over the past year. Master of Ceremonies Seth Goodyear kept the crowd entertained as the Head Coaches of each team came up to the stage and honored their outstanding players and seniors for the current season. Each team gave out the Scholar-Athlete award, the Newcomer of the Year award, the Coaches award and the Most Valuable Player award. Lastly, they all brought out this year's seniors to honor their committment to their athletic programs and gave a special award to the seniors who had stayed at Penn State Harrisburg for all four years of their athletic career.
Upon conclusion, Rashaan took the mic again, and honored those student-athletes that were also members of the Staff Advisory Council (SAC) for "Contributing their time and efforts for not only the good of their teams, but also for the benefit of the campus as a whole." The ceremony finished with a rousing rendition of the 'We Are' cheer, and the students afterward were treated to a catered dinner for both themselves and their families. All in all, a fitting end to another year of athletic excellence at Penn State Harrisburg!
